LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this cake I did for the 13th birthday of a lovely and talented girl! She was having a move-themed birthday and wanted a fitting cake to celebrate.
I’m not sure why I didn’t get a good shot of the entire cake (without my clutter in the background), but this one will give you a good idea of the details.
The cake itself was a 10″ 3-layer vanilla sour cream cake with buttercream icing and buttercream between the layers. The popcorn bag was made of Rice Krispie treats, molded together into the shape of a bag, and covered with homemade marshmallow fondant.
I used the same rice cereal treat to make the center of the reels, then attached dried fondant discs to each side and added a ribbon of black fondant to look like the film strip going around and coming out. The red carpet, ticket, stars, and clacker are all made from fondant which I allowed to dry for a few days to stiffen.
The popcorn was made from different colored marshmallows cut in a few places and squished a bit to look like popped corn–really ingenious idea I found on Pinterest and very realistic!
It was a really fun cake to make…hope you enjoyed your 13th birthday party, Ava! You really are a sweet and oh-so-talented young lady!!
